Klépierre shares the results of its European study on shopping centers
Physical retail continues to demonstrate its appeal across Europe. According to a study conducted by OpinionWay for Klépierre among 9,000 European consumers, 55% of respondents now prefer shopping in physical stores.
Shopping centers stand out as Europeans’ favorite shopping destination, chosen by 40% of respondents ahead of city centers, and regularly visited by 73% of consumers.
Far more than places to shop, they are increasingly seen as destinations in their own right. Visitors come not only to make purchases, but also to stroll, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy dining and leisure activities.
This appeal is particularly strong among younger generations: 46% of 18-24-year-olds consider shopping centers their preferred destination for shopping and leisure, while 63% say they go there to meet friends.
The study also highlights the growing importance of environmental considerations. Nearly three-quarters of consumers say they are more likely to visit shopping centers that are committed to reducing their environmental impact and that offer services supporting the circular economy.
