The first covered market of the Netherlands, a unique and modern place
Situated next to Station Blaak, in Rotterdam, under a gigantic 40 meter high arch designed by MVRDV Architects, the first covered market of the Netherlands takes up the
ground floor and is a home for local fresh produce.
The 96 food stalls are covered by a fresco with flowers, fruits and other produce. Realized in 3D prints, this 11.200 m2 creation of Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam is the largest artwork of the country.
The market clusters all latest culinary concepts. Among others, the British celebrity Jamie Oliver will open a restaurant in the Markthal next November.
Since the opening in October 2014, the market has already welcomed 6 million visitors (30 June 2015).
